Nigeria’s female National Basketball Team, D’Tigress, on Saturday, overpowered Senegal to book a slot in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket for the fifth consecutive time.

The Nigerian ladies advanced to the final after a keenly contested semi-final game against Senegal, which ended in a 75–68 victory.

Following the hard-earned victory, President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the D’Tigress for their resilience and commitment.

The President, in a statement on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, celebrated the team’s victory, describing it as a ‘final before the final.’

He also commended Coach Rena Wakama for guiding the team to the fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket final, which also ensured their qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments, scheduled for March 2026.

“I have observed the discipline, focus, and team spirit consistently displayed by D’Tigress throughout this tournament—qualities that have brought honour to our nation and earned respect for our players and coaches worldwide.

“I especially commend Rena Wakama, the team’s first female Head Coach, whose leadership and experience—both on the court and now from the bench—continue to inspire D’Tigress to new heights in this highly competitive sport,” President Tinubu said in the statement.

He also assured the D’Tigress of his support as they pursue their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh overall.

Naija News reports that Nigeria’s D’Tigress, will now face Mali for the ultimate prize in the final of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

This follows Mali’s 76-50 victory over South Sudan in the second semi-final clash of the tournament.
