A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alwan Hassan, has asserted that the challenge of Northern Nigeria does not lie in infrastructure but in the issue of ethnic and religious disunity.

Naija News reports that Hassan, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, dismissed claims of the growing issue of infrastructural development between the federal government and the North.

Hassan claimed that certain northern groups and opposition figures, such as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), are not representative of the North’s true interests.

According to the APC chieftain, the main issues facing Northern Nigeria go beyond infrastructure development, stating that what the region truly needs is unity across ethnic and religious lines.

He further cited the economic potential of the North, pointing to the region’s vast resources and landscape.

He said, “This group of people the ACF, the opposition we have tackled them before under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, and we will still do it this time.

“They are not for the North, and that’s what I want to make clear.

“Infrastructure is not the problem of the North. We don’t need infrastructure from the federal government. What we need is unity.

“An Idoma man cannot become governor of Benue State. A Muslim in Plateau State cannot become Speaker of the State House of Assembly. A Christian minority in Borno State cannot be governor. These are our problems religion and tribe.

“Let there be one religion and one tribe and that should be the Northern Nigeria.

“We have 424 local governments, each with economic potential. We own the land in Nigeria fertile, versatile. Let the federal government come to us and partner on that.”
