The All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated a Canadian judge, Phuong Ngo of the Federal Court of Canada, who labelled the party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as terrorist organizations, describing him as a racist.
The APC, while reacting through its National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, said Justice Ngo demonstrated ignorance by labelling the APC as a terrorist organization.
The ruling party also added that the Canadian Judge has no jurisdiction to determine the status of a Nigerian-recognized political party, not to mention declaring it as a terrorist organization.
Naija News recalls that on June 17, 2025, Justice Ngo was reported to have dismissed an appeal by Douglas Egharevba, a former Nigerian politician, for judicial review after the Immigration Appeal Division found him inadmissible under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
According to the Peoples Gazette, the Canadian Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness argued that both APC and PDP were implicated in political violence, subversion of democracy, and electoral bloodshed in Nigeria.
Court records revealed that Egharevba was a member of the PDP from 1999 to 2007, before joining the APC, where he remained until 2017. He moved to Canada in September 2017 and disclosed his political history.
Speaking further, Basiru described the APC as a credible political organization, saying the Canadian judge spoke from a narrow perspective of determining the status of an asylum seeker.
“The presiding judge must be an ignoramus! We are not party to the suit, and the court has no jurisdiction to determine the status of a Nigerian-recognized political party, not to talk of declaring it as a terrorist organization.
“It is unfortunate that some desperate and unpatriotic Nigerians will allow the name of the country to be brought to unpalatable commentary by racist judges on account of a self-contrived application for asylum.
“The so-called judgement was obviously delivered from a jaundiced perspective and within the narrow confines of determining eligibility for asylum by an applicant.
“The APC is a credible democratic political organization and does not seek legitimacy from a foreign bench and under a law that has no extraterritorial application,” the APC scribe said.
