Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has appointed eight new commissioners, Naija News reports.

Alia submitted the list of eight commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The names were forwarded days after the governor dissolved the previous executive council, leaving only the office of the Chief of Staff, which is now held by Moses Atagher, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

The fresh nominations are part of a plan to reconstitute the state cabinet.

A second list of nominees is expected to follow soon.

The first batch of nominees includes Theresa Odachi Ikwue, Benjamin Ashaver, Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, Peter Oboh Egbodo, Yangien Timothy Ornguga, Denis Iyaighgba, James Dwem, and Paul Ejeh Ogwuche.

In other news, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has relieved two commissioners of their duties in a cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, the affected officials are Engr. Emat Kois, Commissioner for Environment, and Hon. Tukur Ibrahim, Commissioner for Intergovernmental and Special Duties.

Governor Zulum thanked the former commissioners for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours.

The governor immediately named Engr. Mohammed Habib and Ibrahim Hala Hassan as replacements for the dismissed commissioners. Their appointments have been forwarded to the Borno State House of Assembly for confirmation.
