The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed grief over the passing of the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (retd.), Gomo II, who died at the age of 81.

Naija News reports that the Emir of Zuru passed away on Sunday, 17th August.

His death was confirmed by a source who told Nigerian Tribune that the Emir died in his palace in Zuru.

In a condolence message issued on behalf of the Northern governors, Yahaya described the late monarch as a “highly respected leader, patriotic statesman and custodian of tradition who devoted his life to the service of Nigeria, both in military and traditional capacities.”

He praised the Emir’s illustrious military career, recalling in particular his tenure as the Military Administrator of the old Bauchi State, where he made what Yahaya called “remarkable contributions to development and governance.”

The governor also highlighted the late Emir’s unwavering commitment to the progress of his domain and his role within the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council.

“Maj. Gen. Sani Sami was a stabilising voice and a respected pillar whose guidance and contributions to the Northern States Governors’ Forum will be sorely missed,” Yahaya said.

On behalf of his colleagues, the NSGF Chairman extended condolences to the royal family, the Zuru Emirate Council, and the government and people of Kebbi State.

He urged the royal household to sustain the legacy of dignity, service, and development left behind by the late monarch.

Governor Yahaya prayed for Allah’s mercy on the departed Emir.

“May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Aljannat Firdaus,” he added.
