The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially released the calendar for the 2025/26 campaign, setting the stage for an action-packed season.
According to the schedule, the league will kick off on Friday, August 22, 2025, with defending champions Remo Stars hosting Rivers United in a blockbuster opener at Ikenne.
The NPFL will observe a mid-season break from December 30, 2025, to January 6, 2026, giving players and clubs a week to regroup ahead of the title run-in.
The mid-season transfer window will open on January 1 and close on January 30, 2026. The season is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Meanwhile, Chukwuemeka Obioma is set to make a high-profile return to Nigerian football after sealing a deal with Abia Warriors.
Obioma, who last played in the NPFL with Enyimba during the 2022/23 season, enjoyed a standout campaign with the People’s Elephant, winning the league title and finishing as the season’s top scorer before moving to Libyan side Al-Majd SCC.
The 28-year-old striker has agreed personal terms with the Umuahia-based club and will be officially unveiled before the new season kicks off.
His arrival is expected to provide a major attacking boost for Abia Warriors, who are preparing to compete on three fronts, the NPFL, President Cup, and the Conference League, next season.
