The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in winning all 23 local government areas in the forthcoming August 30 council elections in Rivers State.
Speaking at the APC campaign flag-off held on Thursday at the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, in Obio/Akpor LGA, the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Victor Giadom, urged candidates to replicate President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in their LGAs after victory.
Giadom, who was represented by Senator Magnus Abe, said the Rivers APC was united and stronger ahead of the polls, praising the state executive for conducting a “seamless primary election” that produced credible candidates.
“The APC in Rivers State is united. The APC in Rivers State is strong. The APC in Rivers State is ready to deliver the dividends of democracy to the grassroots,” Giadom said.
He added, “Everybody in Rivers State is welcome to join the APC. The current chairmen and councillors of our party are now the faces of the Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots. You are the Tinubu that Rivers people will look up to, and we know you will not disappoint. Looking at this crowd, the election is a no contest. We are together and we will deliver.”
Also speaking, the state chairman of APC, Chief Tony Okocha, presented party flags to chairmanship and vice chairmanship candidates across the 23 LGAs, describing the last council election under suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a charade.
“The APC said we were not going to participate, and we didn’t participate. We told them it would not work, and it didn’t work. Today, because the processes put in place by RSIEC are right, we are here to follow and support those processes,” Okocha said.
He declared that the party was not entering the race to experiment but to win across all 23 LGAs and 319 wards.
Okocha also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for uniting politicians across party lines in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
“Go and campaign. Go and become fishers of men. We do not expect any violence because our party is not violent. We have taken this party out of the doldrums, now we are taking the lead. Let us maintain that level and standard,” he charged the candidates.
